Dr. Ahmed Hassouna, Professor Emirates of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Ain Shams University is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of “The Cardiothoracic Surgeon” and “The Egyptian Cardiothoracic Surgeon”, the statistical editor & advisor of “the Egyptian Heart Journal”. He is a visiting professor of Biostatistics at several Egyptian universities and a Biostatistics consultant for the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population. He is a member of the Egyptian Supreme Council Committee for promoting professors, for 3 consecutive rounds.

Born in Cairo in 1957, Dr. Hassouna received his elementary and high school education at the reputable French education institution: “College De La Salle”, Cairo, Egypt ( established 1858). He got his Medical ‘bachelor’s ( MBBCH) and Master’s ( MSC) of Surgery at Ain Shams University. In 1987, he was granted a 4-year scholarship by the French government, through Ain Shams university. He achieved a “DIS “in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery from Rouen University, a “DU” in Microsurgical Research from Aix-Marseille University. He became a member of the French College of Vascular Surgery.
Everything did change when he met Professor Daniel Schwartz, founder of the distinguished Biostatistics Centre “CESAM”, Paris VI University, upon requesting an exemption from a 2-year waiting-list period before subscription to a diploma in biostatistics. The great man, scientist accepted, in return for a promise to transfer Biostatistics knowledge and Science back home, where it was and is most needed.

As Biostatistics is the mating of biology and statistics, Professor Hassouna decided to maintain a dual practice over the years, with elaborate passion. He was responsible for more than 5000 open heart surgeries and, at the same time, organized more than 200 biostatistics lectures and workshops and analyzed more than 150 clinical research projects.
In 2017, he became dedicated to Biostatistics: founding his education Institute TRUST (Thoth for Research and Development) and thought that it was about time to fulfill a promise he made 30 years ago in Paris: to deliver the message to a larger needy audience as “Statistics for Clinicians”.
